Maya Fuhr is a Los Angeles-based artist whose practice explores various facets of the art, fashion, and design worlds. With a focus on sculpture and photography, specifically analogue film, Fuhr’s dream-like aesthetic illuminates any chosen garment’s lived history and a sense of authenticity in her subjects — fraught with contradictions of beauty, exclusion, opulence, exploitation, and aspiration. Fuhr’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally in London, Paris, New York, Tel Aviv, and Toronto at The Art Gallery of Ontario. In 2017, she was awarded the Magenta Foundation Photography Project Award, enabling her to continue her series Malleable Privilege, a timely inward-looking investigation into the artist’s relationship with fashion and its impact on the environment. In 2020, she was nominated for The Canadian Art and Fashion Award - Image Maker of The Year.

Maya Fuhr est une artiste torontoise dont la pratique explore les diverses facettes des mondes de l’art, de la mode et du design. Se concentrant sur la sculpture et la photographie, en particulier sur le film analogique, l’esthétique onirique de Fuhr met en lumière l’histoire vécue de chaque vêtement choisi et un sentiment d’authenticité chez ses sujets – remplis de contradictions de beauté, d’exclusion, d’opulence, d’exploitation et d’aspiration. Son travail a été exposé à l’échelle nationale et internationale, soit à Londres, à Paris, à New York, à Tel-Aviv et à Toronto, à l’Art Gallery of Ontario. En 2017, elle a reçu le Magenta Foundation Photography Project Award, lui permettant ainsi de poursuivre sa série Malleable Privilege, une recherche opportune et introspective sur sa relation avec la mode et son impact sur l’environnement. En 2020, elle a été mise en nomination pour le Canadian Art and Fashion Award dans la catégorie Image Maker of The Year.
