Published by Plein Sud

This publication stems from the exhibition of Nicolas Fleming’s installation Le bureau, presented at Plein sud in the fall of 2019. Although this artist’s work usually refers to architectural elements, his pieces seem more like imprecise or ambiguous structures and environments. In the case of Le bureau installation, Fleming set out to recreate the space of Plein sud’s administrative offices inside the exhibition space, while retaining the latter’s components, dimensions and furniture. This simple yet ambitious program ultimately led us to retrace the artist’s previous work in order to make connections with it and the installation. The publication that grew out of this research provides an extended commentary on the whole of the artist’s career, thanks in large part to the contribution of the author, Florence-Agathe Dubé-Moreau, an art historian and critic and independent curator.
